I apologize for the lack of postings recently. I have been playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and dealing with "Female Gamer Haters & Glitch B*tches Cheaters". Yikes! I swear that this game is the worst in the history of video games for the above title since I began playing shooters in the early 1990s.
I get some of it, afterall, some parents still raise their little boys to feel inferior if a gal bests them in something. It's OK to come out of the Dark Ages though.
What I do not get is the number of little kids playing multiplayer. I mean, comeon. Studies have shown the damage to the frontal lobe with regards to video games and kids under 14. The Xbox 360/PS3/Wii/WHATEVER is not a substitute for spending time with your kids. Nor is a gaming console a babysitter. Do these idiot parents really think that the law regarding the age to buy certain rated video games is something to be ignored?
In addition, I have, in the past, run across some weird situations in which grown men were buddying up to kids in multiplayer. I had to chastise one obviously grown male voice for asking an obvious small child what his AIM was. Then I asked the small child if his Mum thought it was OK for him to be giving personal information to random strangers online. For topping to this whole situation, I reported the obvious grown man to Microsoft's Xbox Live Support. Yep. I filed a report. Not that anything was probably done about it.
I do play with a few kids. And, I listen to the conversations around them like a hawk. Nobody mucks with my gaming kids!
I also have a woman in my gaming clan that has several kids. I used to "babysit" the kids. This means, the kids were allowed to sign onto multiplayer and could play so long as they were in the room with me and she nor her mancreature had to sit in the room to physically monitor the gaming themselves.
To me that is a much better way of letting kids experience multiplayer, learn gaming conduct and sportsman skills. A safe adult.
If I have offended anyone, then let me put it to you simply:
Would you let your child wander off to a bar telling them to be home in bed by a certain time without checking up on any of the above yet know they are in a bar?
If you answer "Yes" to the above question, I sincerely hope that your child(ren) get a new home with a responsible loving family.
