Apologies

.

I apologize for the lack of postings recently. I have been playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and dealing with "Female Gamer Haters & Glitch B*tches Cheaters". Yikes! I swear that this game is the worst in the history of video games for the above title since I began playing shooters in the early 1990s.

I get some of it, afterall, some parents still raise their little boys to feel inferior if a gal bests them in something. It's OK to come out of the Dark Ages though.

What I do not get is the number of little kids playing multiplayer. I mean, comeon. Studies have shown the damage to the frontal lobe with regards to video games and kids under 14. The Xbox 360/PS3/Wii/WHATEVER is not a substitute for spending time with your kids. Nor is a gaming console a babysitter. Do these idiot parents really think that the law regarding the age to buy certain rated video games is something to be ignored?

In addition, I have, in the past, run across some weird situations in which grown men were buddying up to kids in multiplayer. I had to chastise one obviously grown male voice for asking an obvious small child what his AIM was. Then I asked the small child if his Mum thought it was OK for him to be giving personal information to random strangers online. For topping to this whole situation, I reported the obvious grown man to Microsoft's Xbox Live Support. Yep. I filed a report. Not that anything was probably done about it.

I do play with a few kids. And, I listen to the conversations around them like a hawk. Nobody mucks with my gaming kids!

I also have a woman in my gaming clan that has several kids. I used to "babysit" the kids. This means, the kids were allowed to sign onto multiplayer and could play so long as they were in the room with me and she nor her mancreature had to sit in the room to physically monitor the gaming themselves.

To me that is a much better way of letting kids experience multiplayer, learn gaming conduct and sportsman skills. A safe adult.

If I have offended anyone, then let me put it to you simply:

Would you let your child  wander off to a bar telling them to be home in bed by a certain time without checking up on any of the above yet know they are in a bar?

If you answer "Yes" to the above question, I sincerely hope that your child(ren) get a new home with a responsible loving family.

New Reward Program

.

I was out yesterday afternoon at my least favorite place in the world: The Mall. Bleh. I really do not like malls. I always feel as though I'm about to be sucked into some cookie-cutter world whereas I shall soon be taken to a corral to be sheared like all sheep are. But I digress.

We ended up in Hot Topic. From the outside I was immediately assaulted by the teenypopper craze: Twilight. Yech. No thanks. Not my style. Even when I was Fallen Goddess the EIC of Gothism Zine did I like the vampies. Once again, I digress.

However, my frugal eye spotted the words scrawled on a board "Reward". Making a beeline to said sign, I see that Hot Topic had done away with their previous reward program for a shiny new one. Nice. Off I go to the gal working the register smiling like the cat that caught the mouse. Using her superhuman frugal shopper spotting senses she brightly asks me if I am part of their new reward program. I say no. Hey, I can let the gal have some sense of accomplishment. She does not need to know that I am a 1) veteran Frugal Shopper well versed in TOS for Reward Programs and 2) a former ASM of (at one time) 2 retail stores. I know her pain of "I have to make quota or I am cut".

So, I play into her hand. "Can you tell me about your Reward Program please?" Now it was her turn to smile like a Chesire Cat. "Sure!" came the too perky of a response from a gal with gauged ears and a Slayer t-shirt on. No matter. Small details aside she ran through the program for me. I had an immediate response which showed well on my crestfallen face. "So, unlike other reward programs, the points are only good to be accumulated towards a discount? Because, I have two more wallets full of rewards cards."  As I show her my overstuffed wallet. Not an evil credit card in sight.

Her face matched mine in it's hearty sadness as she shook her head, "Yeah. Sorry." Bless her heart, methinks I have found a frugal-in-training. I feel her pain so I toss her a bone. "OK sure. What the heck. I can use it online where you guys have the best deals in clearance." She smiles brightly and agrees with a "Oh you have hit the clearances section?"

"Yep. One Yule I got 3 gifts for 5 people all for under $30. Plus everyone loved their gifts. I have yet to top that in gift recipient satisfaction." was my deliriously giddy reply.

"That is great! I love the clearances stuff and my discount." was her trying to find common ground reply.

I nod. A kindred soul connected to mine via our love of gift-giving and frugality.

What was nice was that I filled out the little form and she entered my info there, activiting my Rewards Card instantly.

When I got home I noted that I had an email from Hot Topic about my Reward Program. Talk about on top of things.

So, for you all I will break it down:

Now, I do doubt that like other Reward Programs there will be secret codes to hand out for more points, but, hey, you never know. If anyone runs across one, just let me know!
